Originating in Asia, Black Peppercorns have been a valuable spice, widely traded for centuries. The spice was traditionally believed to cure several ailments, including sunburn and toothache.

We trust our supplier.  They know their plants well and have an expert of knowledge. Anything we want to know, there is always someone on the other side of the phone (Or email) who will talk to us about what’s happening at the farm and every detail (even the quality of the soil).

They  have been trading since 1982 and supply companies such as Pukka tea, Yeo yalley and Neals yard and have a great reputation for the quality and sourcing of their herbs and other plant matter. They also have their own biodynamic farm based in Somerset where they grow some of their own native plants and hold full organic certification.

How To Use It

Dried and cracked or powdered, they can be used to enhance the flavour of savoury and sweet dishes, providing a subtle heat as well as a pungency and depth.

Health Benefits

In ancient Indian Ayurvedic medicine, Peppercorns were used to help digest and metabolise food and there is now research that suggests Black Peppercorns may increase the good bacteria in the gut, which has been associated with improvements in immune response, mood and several chronic illnesses.

The spiciness of Peppercorns comes from piperine, a compound found in the corns that is currently being studied for its potential to increase the dietary absorption of a wide variety of beneficial nutrients: vitamin B12, curcumin, selenium and beta-carotene.
